THE PREDICTION
You might think on the surface that this looks an open-and-shut straight-sets victory for world number six Holger Rune but do not underestimate world number 265 Ryan Peniston on grass. The 27-year-old left-hander reached back-to-back quarter-finals on British grass last season after stunning Casper Ruud in the first round here and Rune, then world number 29, in Eastbourne. Peniston upset in-form Ugo Humbert in straight sets on Monday to remind home fans of his qualities on this surface whilst Rune, who has since become a wholly different animal on tour, laboured to victory in two tiebreaks over Maxime Cressy on Tuesday. The Dane remains the clear favourite on overall form but a three-set defeat to the Brit last summer makes this a really interesting clash. Backing Rune to earn at least a set is the suitably cautious move here but you could be forgiven for taking a one-off on Peniston to utilise the Queen’s crowd for a famous win here.
