THE PREDICTION

World number 50 Roman Safiullin beat Andy Murray in straight sets on Wednesday to maintain his strong form and he will be desperate to bring his best to this quick rematch with Alexander Zverev, who beat him to the Chengdu Open title last week. 26-year-old Safiulin beat top 30 players Dan Evans and Lorenzo Musetti en-route to the Chengdu final, where he took the first set from top seed Zverev before falling away after a second-set tiebreak, and he stands a reasonable chance at the upset here with the German a poorer starter than closer. World number 10 Zverev made it seven wins on the spin with a run to the semi-finals of the China Open but a straight-sets defeat to rival Daniil Medvedev will leave a sour taste. The 26-year-old should be expected to perform, though, as every ranking point is precious in the race to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin at the end of the season. Back Zverev to win outright with another three-setter a distinct possibility.
