RINKY HIJIKATA VS LUCIANO DARDERI PREDICTION
22-year-old Luciano Darderi set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 40th this week after enjoying a remarkable breakthrough season on his favoured clay.
The Italian won the Cordoba Open in only his third tour-level campaign back in February and he has not looked back since, with semi-final exits at Houston and Lyon last week complementing a recent run to the third round of the Madrid Masters and strong work at Challengers across the swing.
World number 78 Rinky Hijikata will be up for the battle in this first encounter with Darderi but he would much prefer hardcourt conditions, on which he reached the round of 16 at the US Open last summer to prove himself one to watch. The Aussie is intense enough to expect sets to go both ways but back Darderi to win outright here ahead of what could be quite the campaign.
