RINKY HIJIKATA VS ALEJANDRO DAVIDOVICH FOKINA PREDICTION

Rinky Hijikata comes into this after participating at the Winston-Salem Open as he sought to get some much-needed time on court. He managed to pick up a couple of wins beating Arthur Cazaux and Borna Coric before Daniel Goffin knocked him out.

Those wins will have given him some much-needed confidence as he has had a string of first round defeats and he has struggled to find any form or momentum in these last few months.

The 23-year-old has been drawn against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina who has had a mixed year himself so far. He looked to be finding some form in Canada as he beat Daniil Medvedev but he was forced to retire midway through the next match against Matteo Arnaldi and his fitness remains a concern.

He did play in Cincinnati but lost in the first round to Frances Tiafoe but he should have had enough rest to be fit to play here. Best of five matches will not overly suit him given how fragile he has been of late but he should be fresh enough and have the quality to beat Hijikata here.
