THE PREDICTION

World number 24 Qinwen Zheng takes a three-match losing streak into Wimbledon but her two defeats on grass last month did come against world number four Jessica Pegula and number 11 Veronika Kudermetova. The 20-year-old reached the third round here on her debut last summer and she has, remarkably, never lost a first round match at a major since her overall debut at the Australian Open last season. That being said, 27-year-old Katerina Siniakova beat Lucia Bronzetti to lift her fourth WTA title on Saturday and a five-match winning streak on grass gives her a remarkable edge if she can recalibrate in time for Monday’s opener at Wimbledon. The Czech is already reigning Women’s Doubles champion here alongside Barbora Krejcikova but had she would have snuck inside the seeds at SW19 had she won Bad Homburg last week as she sits at world number 32 in the live rankings. This is one of the tougher calls of the day, particularly as it is always difficult to back-up a title with a first round win so soon, but take Siniakova to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
