PEDRO MARTINEZ VS ARTHUR FILS PREDICTION
Pedro Martinez pulled off an exceptional if somewhat unexpected win over Jiri Lehecka in the first round as he raced to a 6-2 6-2 win. As good as the 27-year-old Spaniard was, Lehecka was abysmal as he failed to repeat his form from the previous week.
Martinez now moves on to face French talent Arthur Fils and he can take some confidence from the fact that he has beaten him already once this year. That came earlier in 2024 on clay in Santiago as he won in three sets.
Arthur Fils will not be phased by that and he has come on leaps and bounds since then. The 20-year-old beat Daniel Altmeier in the first round in straight sets and should be well rested after taking a week off after Shanghai.
Assuming Fils is on his game, he should have too much quality for Martinez and we expect him to avenge that loss earlier in the year. On hard courts, he certainly has the edge and his form is strong too.
