World number four Ons Jabeur beat Magdalena Frech from a set down on Saturday in her first match back from surgery and this will be an interesting rematch with Marketa Vondrousova, whom she lost to in three at the Australian Open in her previous match on tour. The 28-year-old played down her chances at competing at her best level straight away at Indian Wells and her reasonably drab opener suggests 23-year-old Vondrousova is in pole position here after a hammering of 28th seed Marie Bouzkova on Saturday. The former world number 14 is on a return from a long injury lay-off of her own but she has impressed so far this season. Whilst the conditions would suit both crafty shot-makers well at their best, Vondrousova can be backed to win outright in similar circumstances to their match in Melbourne.
