THE PREDICTION

World number one Novak Djokovic turns 35 years old on the first day of Roland-Garros, the same age as current Men’s Grand Slam Singles record-holder Rafael Nadal. Djokovic is the defending champion in Paris after beating Nadal in four sets in last season’s semi-finals, before coming back from two sets down to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. The Serb beat Tsitsipas again last Sunday to claim a sixth Italian Open final and he takes a five-set winning streak from Rome into the first round of Roland-Garros without yet dropping a set in that run. Djokovic has won Roland-Garros on two occasions after also claiming the title in 2016, beating Andy Murray in four sets. World number 92 Yoshihito Nishioka has lost both his meetings with the Serb in straight sets, most recently at the Australian Open in 2020, and he has yet to win a match on clay this swing. Back Djokovic to win in three here.
