THE PREDICTION

World number one Novak Djokovic looked jaded and rusty at the Monte-Carlo Open last week but it is not the first time that the Serb has cone into the tournament under-prepared on clay. The 35-year-old should be the better for it at the Banja Luka Open and well-backed this week as the tournament favourite as he seeks out as many matches as possible before Roland-Garros next month. 18-year-old Luca Van Assche set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 87th this week after some recent strong work on the Challenger circuit and the Frenchman grabbed his best tour result yet with a comeback victory over Stan Wawrinka on Monday. Van Assche was junior champion at Roland-Garros in 2021 and he will be a threat to Djokovic in the early portion of this match with little to lose in what will likely be the proudest day of his career so far. Back Djokovic to win in straight sets all the same but it would not be a surprise to see a tiebreak in the first set before the Serb finds his rhythm.
