NOVAK DJOKOVIC VS LORENZO MUSETTI PREDICTION
World number one Novak Djokovic improved with each passing set in a straight-sets victory over Roberto Carballes Baena on Thursday, backing up a solid enough opener over Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
The 37-year-old is the defending Roland-Garros champion after beating Casper Ruud to the title here last summer but his preparations have been mothing short of poor, by his highest of standards, coming in to Paris and he remains the title favourite by legacy more than current form.
World number 30 Lorenzo Musetti has beaten the Serb on clay before, and an in-form Djokovic at last spring’s Monte-Carlos Masters, but he trails 1-4 in their head-to-head after recently losing their rematch in Monte-Carlo last month. 22-year-old Musetti took the first two sets from Djokovic in the round of 16 here three years ago but he exhausted himself in the process, eventually retiring in the fifth.
The Italian is yet to drop a set this week, proving what he can do on his favoured clay when dialled-in, but there is little evidence for wider form this season that suggests he can cause an upset – even against this vulnerable Djokovic. Back the world number one to win in straight sets, with his growing game ominous on Thursday.
