THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Nikola Milojevic qualified well as the 15th seed this week to reach the main draw of the Australian Open for a first time. Milojevic shocked fellow Serb Filip Krajinovic in his only other major first round match at Roland-Garros back in 2020 and he could be a handful for world number 55 Mackenzie McDonald here. McDonald, also 26, enjoyed the best season of his career last year with a first ATP tour final reached at the Washington Open. He finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner there but victories over Nick Kyrgios, Benoit Paire and Kei Nisihkori were impressive examples of what he is capable of and the American has historically flourished in the longer five-set format at recent majors. McDonald reached the round of 16 here last season with the freedom of five sets to play with and that should see him come through here the outright winner.
