THE PREDICTION

World number 25 Nick Kyrgios dropped a set to Benjamin Bonzi on Wednesday but ultimately looked in decent shape in a four set victory, with Bonzi managing to break his serve on three occasions. The former world number 13 won the seventh ATP title of his career early last month at the Citi Open, his second there after also winning in 2019, in form he transferred over well from a first Grand Slam final reached at Wimbledon in July where he lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic. This could be a fairly lengthy first encounter with J.J. Wolf after the American backed up a huge straight-sets victory over Roberto Bautista Agut on Monday with a four-set victory over Alejandro Tabilo. The 23-year-old looks like coming into full tour-level form after some strong results this summer, most notably a run to the quarter-finals of the aforementioned Citi Open where he beat Denis Shapovalov and Holger Rune. Kyrgios should feasibly be able to come through this first meeting in straight sets but Wolf will be well-backed as the American underdog on home soil and that could cause a few flashpoints along the way with Kyrgios disliking playing the villain. Back the Aussie to win outright here with four sets or even five more likely than three.
