THE PREDICTION

World number 25 Dan Evans came back from a set down to beat Radu Albot on Tuesday, backing-up a solid start in the Men’s Doubles alongside John Peers. The 32-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Canada Masters before defeat to eventual champion Pablo Carreno Busta back in August and more recently the semi-finals at the San Diego Open before losing to Marcos Giron. An early exit to Yoshihito Nishioka, the eventual champion, at the Korea Open last week extended a remarkable 0-6 deficit and Evans will be relieved to face Miomir Kecmanovic instead here after the Serb ousted the in-form Japanese lefty in three sets on Wednesday. World number 33 Kecmanovic also suffered an early exit in Seoul last week to make it four defeats from his last seven matches but the 23-year-old beat Evans in four sets at Roland-Garros last season in their only previous encounter. The playing field should be levelled on a hardcourt but backing Kecmanovic to win at least a set as the just-about likelier victor seems the sensible way to lean here.
