Matteo Arnaldi continues to enjoy a fine 2024 and the talented Italian now faces Roman Safiullin for a place in the third round in New York

MATTEO ARNALDI VS ROMAN SAFIULLIN PREDICTION

Matteo Arnaldi returns to action in the second round after he eased past Zachary Svajda in his opening match. He won that tie comprehensively 6-3 6-2 6-1 and he was far too good for the American rookie.

Arnaldi will have gained plenty of confidence from that win and he now faces Roman Safiullin as he aims to at least replicate last year’s achievement of reached the fourth round.

Safiullin will provide him with a tough test however. The 27-year-old Russian has already beaten Arnaldi once this year in their only previous meeting as he won 7-6 6-2 in Brisbane at the start of 2024.

Safiullin did reasonably well in his first-round match without ever hitting top gear as he beat Matthew Forbes 6-4 7-6 6-2. That performance, not dissimilar to his year, was pretty mixed and he will have to step it up a level against Arnaldi.

Our preference is with the Italian here. He has the better form and while Safiullin will likely push him hard, Arnaldi is playing better and should continue that here.
