MATTEO ARNALDI VS JORDAN THOMPSON PREDICTION
The bookmakers have this match dead even and it is easy to see why that is the case. There are no previous meetings to go off, they sit within two places of each other in the world rankings (Thompson is 32 and Arnaldi is 30) and both are playing some high-quality tennis on the this North American leg of the ATP Tour.
Arnaldi has been pretty dismissive of both of his two opponents so far. Zachary Svajda and Roman Safiullin were both comprehensively beaten in straight sets and Arnaldi did not waste any time in beating both. That will help him remain fresh and he comes into this in good shape.
Jordan Thompson has been equally strong and he has also been playing the doubles. He breezed past Constant Lestienne in the first round but his straight sets win over Hubert Hurkacz really stood out as a strong performance.
This really is a pick’em kind of match and it is incredibly tough to choose between them. We have a marginal preference for Thompson who just seems to be playing with so much belief right now. Arnaldi cannot be discounted though and he is just one of a number of talented young Italians who impress every week. Our preferred play is on the sets and this one is surely going back and forth with four or five sets likely.
