THE PREDICTION

World number 42 Martina Trevisan is a renowned clay-courter on tour but she has enjoyed a remarkable upturn in form on hardcourts this year. The 29-year-old started 2023 off with a huge result over Maria Sakkari at the United Cup that proved what was possible and a run to the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Masters last month was the latest in a few deep campaigns. A straight-sets victory over Elise Mertens on Friday is her best result of the week but world number 85 Katerina Siniakova looks a tough test after she stunned in-form Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets. The Czech is capable of much better tennis than her current deflated ranking suggests and she has a strong record at WTA 250 level once reaching this stage, claiming her fourth WTA title at the Bad Homburg Open in June. The pair faced off twice last season with a win apiece on hardcourts but Siniakova won at least a set in both encounters to offer a suitable alternative to picking a winner.
