THE PREDICTION

World number 12 Jelena Ostapenko came out on top of a predictably topsy-turvy clash with Caroline Garcia on Wednesday, backing-up another three-set opener over Sorana Cirstea. The 26-year-old has seen an inordinate amount of three-set matches over the past year as she continues to grapple with her seemingly untameable game but she has reached back-to-back quarter-finals already in 2024, beating some top players, to look a title contender here in Adelaide. World number 41 Marta Kostyuk overcame lucky loser Taylor Townsend in three sets on Wednesday to impressively avoid a an upset and she also looks to have started 2024 strongly, with a defeat to Daria Kasatkina last week in Brisbane a good benchmark. Ostapenko beat the Ukrainian in straight sets, one of her few, back in September and her results so far suggest taking her to come through outright is the sensible choice.

TIP: JELENA OSTAPENKO TO WIN
