MARKETA VONDROUSOVA VS MAGDALENA FRECH PREDICTION
World number six Marketa Vondrousova received a bye to the round of 16 at the Strasbourg Open as the top seed this week. The 24-year-old shocked the tennis world by winning Wimbledon last summer on what had been considered her weakest surface but her strongest undoubtedly remains clay, on which she finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Roland-Garros in 2019.
World number 54 Magdalena Frech grabbed an eye-catching opener over former number three Sloane Stephens on Monday but she will have to improve again to tackle Vondrousova, who looks to have recovered from a tough start to 2024. The Czech won their only previous encounter in straight sets two years ago but both players have come on leaps and bounds from 2022, suggesting three sets are about as likely as two. Vondrousova would blast through at her best but back the top seed to come through outright for caution’s sake.
