World number 30 Marie Bouzkova made the third round of the US Open before a tight three-set defeat to Ons Jabeur last time out. The 25-year-old could be one to watch in Beijing after finding some serious form this time last season, including a run to the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Masters, and this looks a reasonably kind opener. World number 73 Yulia Putintseva is far better than her current ranking suggests but she has struggled to find any consistency for much of the last two seasons. Two solid wins in qualifying should give the Kazakh a bit of momentum against Bouzkova, who has not played in four weeks, to make taking Bouzkova to win outright the suitably sensible call.
