MARIANO NAVONE VS DANIEL EVANS PREDICTION

23-year-old Argentine Mariano Navone has already reached the furthest round he has been in a Grand Slam event but he will have a taste for it now.

After losing the first set 1-6 to Daniel Altmaier, Navone fired back winning the next three sets 6-2 6-4 6-1 to move into the second round. He won the key moments in that game to turn it around but Altmaier was particularly poor as the match wore on. He now meets Dan Evans and Navone will know he needs to step up against the Brit.

Dan Evans was involved in the longest match in the history of the US Open on Tuesday at five hours and 35 minutes so it will be interesting to see how he recovers from that. Evans has not played a huge amount of tennis this year and it was some performance to beat Karen Khachanov in that final set when 0-4 down. It would be no surprise if there is a knock-on effect to this match however.

It was a strange match against Khachanov where both players had spells of dominance after a couple of hard-fought tiebreaks. Evans’ serve began to deteriorate badly as the match went on and fatigue kicked in and it will take a big effort for him to be fresh and ready once again here.

It is hard to see either player dominating this one and despite Navone’s win, he is not a natural on hard courts. Our preference here is to see how Evans fares in-play but take over 3.5 sets.

MARIANO NAVONE VS DANIEL EVANS TIP: OVER 3.5 SETS
