As thrilling as it will be for the home crowd to see Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu as a mixed doubles partnership, they have been dealt an extremely tricky first round tie against two multiple grand slam doubles champions in Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai. Arevalo tasted glory only recently at the 2024 French Open, winning the men’s doubles title and should establish a formidable partnership with Shuai.
However, this isn’t an ordinary opponent. In Murray and Raducanu, they face two fighters with very little to lose and a Wimbledon crowd who will cheer them on for every point. Having said that, it may well take time for the two Brits to find their rhythm as a partnership and with that in mind, the shrewd move would be to back Arevalo and Shuai to win the first set.
