MACKENZIE MCDONALD VS MATTEO ARNALDI PREDICTION
Mackenzie McDonald has certainly earned his place in the main draw in Montreal after he beat James Duckworth and the dangerous Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard to make it to the first round. It has not been the best of years so far for McDonald in the singles but he will take heart from his performances in qualifying.
He now meets another talented young Italian player in Matteo Arnaldi who has been something of a revelation on the ATP Tour this year. The 23-year-old reached the round of 16 at Roland Garros and while his better performances have largely been on clay, he did reach the round of 16 in Miami on hard surface back in March which will give him confidence ahead of this week. Arnaldi did play in the Olympics last week beating Arthur Fils before being knocked out by Dominik Koepfer but he will be fresh coming into this event.
McDonald has been impressive in getting this far but he is likely to find this test against Arnaldi being a step too far. McDonald has been below par this season and it is hard to make a case for the American against Arnaldi.
