THE PREDICTION

World number 13 Jelena Ostapenko burst onto the scene in 2017 to win Roland-Garros just days after turning 20 years old. Now 24, the Latvian spent some years in the wilderness before picking things back up again last year with a first title in two years at the Eastbourne International. Ostapenko won the Dubai Tennis Championships with a stunning campaign of huge results back in February but after reaching the semi-finals of the Qatar Open a week later she has lost in the first round of three-successive tournaments.

23-year-old Lucia Bronzetti will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 73rd on Monday after an excellent run to the Rabat Open semi-finals was ended by Martina Trevisan. The Italian is enjoying her best year on tour so far and she could be in with a shout of a huge upset here if Ostepenko frustrates herself into defeat but the Latvian has to be backed as a former champion to find a way through. Taking Ostapenko outright is a suitably cautious move all the same, though, and leaving this out of an accumulator is wise.
