LORENZO SONEGO VS LORENZO MUSETTI PREDICTION
This first round clash between the two Lorenzos promises to be a highly entertaining one as the pair compete to become the nation’s top player. Both have enjoyed excellent seasons in 2024 and they have made strong progress over the course of the year.
Lorenzo Sonego has struggled in recent weeks since winning the Winston-Salem Open at the end of August. He finally won a match in Stockholm last week before being eliminated in the round of 16 and he lost his first match in the previous four tournaments before that. This all-Italian clash may just give him the spark he needs to get going again.
Lorenzo Musetti has arguably had the edge over the course of the year and has had some real standout wins. He has just dropped off a little by the high standards he set in the summer but he is just as capable as ever in producing fine performances.
He did reach the final in Chengdu four weeks ago before losing the final to Juncheng Shang but he can take plenty o of positives from that. He did not play last week following Shanghai and a rest was likely just what he needed.
This is the first meeting between the two on the ATP Tour and it will be interesting to see who gets the win. It is Musetti who has the edge in form coming into this and we like the fact he was able to have a free week rather than cram another tournament in after Shanghai. Our preference is firmly with Musetti.
