THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Emma Raducanu battled through a lengthy round of 16 clash with Camila Osorio on Thursday, eventually overcoming a fellow rising star in two tiebreaks. The 19-year-old is through to her second quarter-final on tour this season after losing to eventual champion Iga Swiatek at the Stuttgart Open back in April. World number 60 Liudmila Samsonova set a career-high WTA world ranking of 25th last season after winning her maiden WTA title at the Berlin Open on grass but she has struggled somewhat since, although she too impressed in Stuttgart with a three set defeat to Swiatek in the semi-finals. The Russian came back to beat in-form Ajla Tomljanovic in three sets on Thursday in a pretty eye-catching result and this first match between the two could well go the distance. Much of this match will rely on Raducanu’s ability to recover from a huge effort in sweltering conditions, with blisters affecting players this week in Washington, but taking the Brit to win at least a set seems a reasonable compromise to avoiding a full result.
