Rogers is a popular player on tour, especially on US soil, for her gutsy performances and inspiring story after coming back from the brink of retirement with severe knee surgery in 2018.

Shelby Rogers beat Leylah Fernandez in three exciting sets in the desert last October to reach the quarter-finals of Indian Wells in what proved to be the American’s best season on tour to date. The 29-year-old beat Ash Barty at the US Open last September which more than likely paved the way for Emma Raducanu’s miraculous Grand Slam title won against Leylah Fernandez. Since that fateful day the Canadian has struggled to find her battling best until an excellent defence of her Monterrey Open title last time out and that form suggests she can exact revenge against Rogers here. However, Rogers’ defeat of an in-form Ostapenko puts her working level at about the top 20 mark alongside Fernandez to make this a really tight, likely thrilling tussle on Monday.
