World number 32 Lesia Tsurenko set a career-high WTA world ranking of 21st after reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open in 2018 but she is enjoying nearly as strong a ‘second career’ with some renaissance form at 34 years old. The Ukrainian proved herself a serious threat to the top 30 with back-to-back runs to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon last summer before reaching the quarter-finals in Zhengzhou and the semi-finals of the Jasmin Open at the end of the year. World number 56 Lucia Bronzetti was on course for a torrid year before picking up her maiden WTA title at the Rabat Open on clay. The 25-year-old went on to finish runner-up to Katerina Siniakova at the Bad Homburg and reach the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time at the US Open to save her season, but a 1-2 record so far this year suggests this is Tsurenko’s to lose. Tsurenko beat Bronzetti comfortably last April but she will find a tougher foe this time around. Back the Ukrainian to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
