27-year-old Katie Boulter can break the top 50 on tour for the first time after coming back from a set down to beat in-form Yafan Wang on Thursday, with 21-year-old Peyton Stearns one place ahead of her at a career-high of 49th in the live rankings after dominating Clara Tauson. Stearns will command a partisan atmosphere in this biggest match of her career and she will likely thrive under the pressure on her first show-court in New York on Grandstand to look the slight favourite but Boulter was impressive on Thursday. The Brit can sympathise with Stearns after reaching back-to-back third rounds at a home major at Wimbledon and that experience could see her edge through given how close their previous match was, with Stearns just scraping through three tiebreaks at the Austin Open back in February.
