World number seven Coco Gauff started her ‘rebuilding process’ with under additional coach Brad Gilbert on fire at the Washington Open last week with four straight-set victories taking her to her fourth, and most prestigious, WTA title. The 19-year-old also won the Auckland Classic back in January for three titles on hardcourts but Washington was a serious warning to the rest of the tour that she is prepared to out the hard work in to addressing the weaknesses in her otherwise electrifying game. 27-year-old Katie Boulter will break the top 60 on tour for the first time after an assured display over home wildcard Rebecca Marino on Monday. The Brit claimed her maiden WTA title at the Nottingham Open in June to prove to herself that she is capable of more and the next few months on tour could be hugely rewarding after so many injuries in recent years.
Boulter grabbed one of the best wins of her career over Gauff in the second round of the Australian Open back in 2021 but it would be a surprise to see Gauff falter on a winning streak, especially with the majority of the crowd behind her. Take Gauff to win outright though, with the relief of a title win a hard thing to put aside quickly.
