KAREN KHACHANOV VS GABRIEL DIALLO PREDICTION
28-year-old Karen Khachanov is enjoying an excellent week in Almaty and he will be looking to finish it off with the title on Sunday.
Khachanov edged past Aleksandar Vukic in the semi-finals on Saturday and had to show great determination in coming back after losing the first set on the tiebreak.
He now meets Canadian talent Gabriel Diallo and the pair have met once before. That came earlier this year in the Canada ATP 1000 event and it was Khachanov who won that fight 6-4 6-4.
Diallo will look to turn the tables here in what is his first ATP Tour final. He has a 3-1 record in Challenger finals but this is unchartered territory for him at this level.
He was outstanding in his dominant 6-4 6-2 semi win over Francisco Cerundolo on Saturday which followed a different type of win over Alejandro Tabilo in the previous round.
So many of Diallo’s statistics are high this week and he is managing to hold his levels as the quality of opponent goes up. If he can do that here and not be phased by this being the final, there is every chance he wins.
That will not be easy however especially against Khachanov and his impressive serve which is firing. Our marginal preference is with the experience of Khachanov but on nothing more than feeling. The numbers say Diallo. Our preference is on games here and this could very well go the distance and even if it does not, we can see at least one tiebreak.
