JUNCHENG SHANG VS JORDAN THOMPSON PREDICTION
Juncheng Chang and Jordan Thompson meet in the first semi-final in Atlanta with eh duo having met three times before. It was Shang who won emphatically 6-2 6-3 at Indian Wells. Thompson did win the one before that in 2022 but Shang edges the head-to-head 2-1.
Thompson battled to a three-set win over Alejandro Davidovich on Friday in the quarters after serving 21 aces. He will however need to be a bit more ruthless having over taken two of his 14 break points.
Shang played exceptionally well to beat the talented Ben Shelton 7-6 6-4 in his quarter. He coped with Shelton’s serve and despite a first serve percentage of his own just being 55%, his win percentage on first and second serve was an impressive 72% and 75% respectively – the latter being the key to his victory. He will need to do the same again here and handle Thompson’s serve to win this match.
There are routes to victory for both players but it could ultimately come down to which one edges the battles when the going gets tough. There is little to choose and while we have a marginal preference for Shang, it is over 2.5 sets we prefer.
