THE PREDICTION

World number 148 John Millman is better than his current ranking suggests but the Aussie was awarded a wildcard in Melbourne after a fairly ropey season last year. Victory from a set down against Albert Ramos-Vinolas at Adelaide 2 on Tuesday was an encouraging result for the 33-year-old but 26-year-old Marc-Andrea Huesler is in the form of his life right now and the Swiss looks the favourite to edge through. Huesler burst into form on the late hardcourt swing to claim his maiden ATP title at the Sofia Open and he will come into Melbourne at a career-high ATP world ranking of 55th off the back of wins over the likes of Jannik Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Pablo Carreno Busta in recent tournaments. Millman’s matches always pull a dedicated, partisan atmosphere at the Australian Open and it would be a surprise to see him not win at least a set here. Huesler should ultimately find a way through, though, so back the Swiss to win outright.
