This could be a thrilling first round clash between world number nine Taylor Fritz and number 35 Jiri Lehecka, both in their element on a hardcourt. 25-year-old Fritz won the Atlanta Open late last month to bring some serious form into August but a three-set loss to eventual runner-up Tallon Griekspoor in Washington was the first of three-straight three-setters on tour, beating Ugo Humbert and losing to Alex de Minaur in Toronto, to suggest there is some fragility to target in his game. 21-year-old Lehecka played well to beat Brandon Nakashima at this stage last week, avenging his defeat in the Next Gen Finals late last season, but a straight-sets loss to Casper Ruud came slightly against the run of things.
