JESSICA PEGULA VS PAULA BADOSA PREDICTION
Jessica Pegula’s fine form continues and she comes off a serious scrap with the talented Leylah Fernandez. The pair went to a final set tie-break but Pegula won out to make it through the semi-finals. There were occasions when Pegula looked a little fatigued but had control of the match for long spells only for the talented youngster to come back time and time again. Pegula will not be allowed that luxury against the in-form Badosa however.
It was a clinical display from Badosa in her own quarter-final encounter, the Spaniard converting all three of her break points in a straight-sets victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The 26-year-old is still yet to drop a set at the Cincinnati Open this year, and she is clearly the kind of tennis that took her to world number two a couple of years ago.
This is a meeting between the last two WTA tournament winners, with Badosa lifting the Citi Open title a week before Pegula went all the way at the Canadian Open. With both in such strong form, this could be a real treat for fans. The one edge that Badosa has over her opponent is that she is likely to have more energy left in the tank. Pegula has played two three-setters over the past few days, and that followed her Canadian Open success just a week prior. Should this go to a deciding set, we’re tipping the fresher Badosa to outlast Pegula and halt her winning run.
