World number 72 Pedro Cachin came back from a set down to beat Albert Ramos-Vinolas to the Gstaad Open title last summer on his favoured clay, the culmination of 12 months of hard work rising up the rankings. The Argentine reached the third round of the US Open in 2022 but has yet to win a match at the Australian Open, losing on his debut here to Pablo Carreno Busta last season. World number 148 Jesper de Jong will make his Grand Slam debut here after qualifying well this week. The 23-year-old has yet to win a tour-level match, losing his three previous attempts, to look a severe underdog here but Cachin brings very little recent form into the mix.
