THE PREDICTION

World number two Aryna Sabalenka saved three match points to edge past Elina Svitolina in a late-night thriller on Monday, continuing in a similar vein to her runner-up finish at the Madrid Open. The 25-year-old was just edged out by world number one Iga Swiatek in the deciding tiebreak of a modern classic in Madrid, perhaps foreshadowing another showdown this weekend ahead of a hotly-contested Roland-Garros, and she should be able to avoid an upset here.

World number 10 Jelena Ostapenko won Roland-Garros at 20 years old back in 2017 but it is arguable that she is at her best on the faster surfaces. The 26-year-old came back from a set down to end qualifier Rebecca Sramkova’s dream run on Monday, backing up an excellent win over in-form clay specialist Sara Sorribes Tormo, but this looks too steep of a test. Expect short points and plenty of aggro between two of the hardest hitters on the WTA tour but Sabalenka has that extra ounce of poise and precision about her groundstrokes that sees her lead 2-0 in their head-to-head. Back the Belarussian to reach the semi-finals.

TIP: ARYNA SABALENKA TO WIN
