THE PREDICTION
World number 52 Jasmine Paolini is the last Italian standing at the Palermo Ladies Open and she can count on a partisan atmosphere on Sunday after a hugely impressive week. The 27-year-old stunned top seed Daria Kasatkina in the quarter-finals before an assured victory over Sara Sorribes Tormo on Saturday, improving on some choppier three-setters earlier in the week. World number 26 Qinwen Zheng overcame third seed Mayar Sherif in three sets on Saturday in her biggest challenge this week. The 20-year-old finished runner-up to Liudmila Samsonova at the Tokyo Open late last season in her first tour final but she faces a much better chance at claiming a first title in this first meeting with Paolini. Paolini, though, has the winning experience at this level after claiming her first title in Portoroz two years ago and she is an excellent scrapper capable of forcing a decider. The sensible call is taking Qinwen Zheng to edge it outright but perhaps backing Paolini to earn at least a set is the shrewd way to avoid the result.
