THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Jasmine Paolini brought a career-high WTA world ranking of 30th into the Jasmin Open after losing to eventual champion Qinwen Zheng in the semi-finals of the Zhengzhou Open last weekend. The Italian also finished runner-up to Zheng at the Palermo Ladies Open back in July in her third tour final, with her first seeing her lift her only title to date at the 2021 Slovenia Open. A straight-sets victory over Alize Cornet was a solid start to her campaign in Monastir and she should be hard to beat this week, with this a potentially tougher follow-up against 17-year-old Petra Marcinko. The Croat brought her own career-high of 140th into the draw after winning an ITF event in Portugal late last month, her third title off the tour this season. A straight-sets victory over Marina Bassols Ribera on Tuesday was only her third tour-level match but a second win to suggest she has a bright future but Paolini should have too much on this occasion. Back the Italian to win outright.
