World number eight Jannik Sinner is through to the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time after making full use of a remarkably kind draw. The 21-year-old is yet to play someone ranked inside the top 70 on tour at Wimbledon but he has occasionally been challenged across his last three wins over Quentin Halys, Daniel Elahi Galan and a four-set victory over Roman Safiullin on Tuesday. Sinner took the first two sets from Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals here last summer before losing in five to the eventual champion.

World number two Novak Djokovic made it 33 wins on the spin at Wimbledon as the four-time defending champion with a comeback victory over Andrey Rublev. The 36-year-old remains the clear favourite to lift a fifth-successive title here on Sunday, which would take him level with Roger Federer’s record of eight at SW19, and that has not diminished despite dropping sets to Hubert Hurkacz and Rublev this campaign. Djokovic set the Men’s singles record at 23 Grand Slam titles with victory at Roland-Garros last month, taking the lead over Rafael Nadal for the first time in his career. The Serb is aiming to complete the calendar slam this year, with only Steffi Graf in 1988 achieving the feat since the Open Era.
THE PREDICTION
Jannik Sinner returns to Wimbledon one year on form his remarkable victory over Carlos Alcaraz and vastly impressive five-set defeat to Novak Djokovic a better player but it is hard to argue that Djokovic has not done the same. The 36-year-old has won each of his last 33 matches at Wimbledon as the clear best player on grass in the world since Roger Federer’s decline and he takes a 19-match winning streak at Grand Slam level into this semi-final against a player he leads 2-0 in their head-to-head. Sinner has enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime draw to his first semi-finals but it is possible that he has not been challenged enough so far to bring his best level to this blockbuster. Djokovic is well capable of dropping a set at SW19 but his victory rarely feels in doubt. Back Djokovic to win outright here, probably in four.
