JANNIK SINNER VS MACKENZIE MCDONALD PREDICTION

The world number one comes into the US Open having struggled with a hip problem over recent weeks and that is a concern. Lingering issues with his hip will only be compounded in a Grand Slam in the best-of-five format so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

On top of the physical issues, the news broke this last week around the failed drug tests that Sinner had and how he has avoided any penalties or suspensions for them. He has been cleared but there could very well be a toll on Sinner especially given the fact he has parted ways with his fitness coach and physio. That is likely to weigh heavily on Sinner psychologically ahead of this event.

Sinner reached the quarter-finals in 2022 at Flushing Meadows which is his best ever finish so he will be eager to improve on that which is something he has done in so many events in this impressive 2024. If his head is right and his body stands up to it, Sinner can go deep once again this time around.

He kicks off against Mackenzie McDonald who he will fancy his chances against. The pair have met three times before and Sinner has won each time. McDonald has taken a couple of sets off him over those matches and they have not been completely one-sided. That said, it is hard to make a case for him especially given Sinner has found his feet on these hard courts. Sinner knew about all these off-the-court issues and still won the Cincinnati Open. He can get off to a strong start and do well this fortnight in New York.

Consider Sinner to win in straight sets – with the lingering hip issues, he will be eager to avoid dragging his matches out any longer than necessary.

JANNIK SINNER VS MACKENZIE MCDONALD TIP: JANNIK SINNER TO WIN 3-0
