THE PREDICTION

World number seven Carlos Alcaraz played poorly in a quarter-final defeat to Alexander Zverev at Roland-Garros earlier this month but the 19-year-old will be the better for it after an effervescent rise up the rankings. The Spaniard has won two Masters titles this season at the Miami Open and Madrid Open, with two further ATP 500 events claimed in Rio and Barcelona, but he will come into Wimbledon cold with only exhibition experience behind him on grass this year. Alcaraz required five sets to beat a qualifier this time last year before losing to Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the second round.

32-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff ended Alcaraz’ impressive run to the third round at Roland-Garros last summer in three sets but this is likely to be quite the reversal. Whilst Alcaraz has just two exhibition matches on grass behind him coming into Wimbledon Struff is well below-par this season, bringing a 2-10 record into the first round. Back Alcaraz to win outright inside an accumulator, or in straight sets on its own.
