THE PREDICTION

Third seed Irina-Camelia Begu beat Tamara Korpatsch in straight sets on Tuesday to get a promising Lausanne Open underway. The 31-year-old recently reached the round of 16 at Roland-Garros via battling wins over Jasmine Paolini and Ekaterina Alexandrova and she took the first set from eventual semi-finalist Jessica Pegula before defeat. A more recent three-set defeat to Jelena Ostapenko at Wimbledon looks like top 40 form at least and the world number 49 should be considered a genuine threat to the title come this weekend. World number 79 Anastasia Potapova is a tough draw early-on, though, after winning her first WTA title on clay back in April at the Istanbul Open. The 21-year-old has since seriously struggled to match that intensity, with a three-set victory over Lucia Bronzetti on Monday her first tour-level win since Istanbul, and backing Begu to edge this first encounter seems a reasonable risk.
