World number one Iga Swiatek comes in hot from a spotless week at the Poland Open, where the Warsaw native won her home tournament for the first time. The 22-year-old has won plenty of prestigious titles already but her victory two weeks ago clearly meant a great deal to the Pole and a five-match winning streak coming into the US hardcourt swing should strike fear in the hearts of the rest of the draw. Former world number one Karolina Pliskova scraped past Lin Zhu in three sets on Monday to snap a four-match losing streak but whilst the Czech is a serious threat on a hardcourt she trails Swiatek 0-2 in a pretty convincing head-to-head. Pliskova famously lost the 2021 Rome final without taking a game from Swiatek but she fared a little better in a three-set defeat to the Pole in Stuttgart in April. However, back Swiatek to start Montreal on fire with a win in two.
