HUBERT HURKACZ VS YOSHIHITO NISHIOKA PREDICTION

Hubert Hurkacz gets his Cincinnati Open campaign underway and the big Pole will be heartened by his performances from last week in Montreal. He beat Thanasi Kokkinakis and Arthur Rinderknech, before losing a hard-fought match with eventual winner Alexei Popyrin 6-3 6-7 5-7.

He now faces Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka who presents a different kind of challenge for him. Nishioka is super athletic and excellent defensive player, and it will be interesting to see if he can handle Hurkacz’s serve and beat him.

Nishioka has had a disappointing couple of weeks having lost in his first matches in both Washington and Montreal. That came after winning the ATP 250 event in Atlanta so he has shown his ability on hard courts and has some form behind him.

The pair did meet once before but all the way back in 2016 where Nishioka won 6-0 6-2. It is hard to pay too much attention to that match however.

Our marginal preference here is for Hurkacz to just about overpower Nishioka. There is some value on Nishioka but ultimately we think Hurkacz will have too much for him.
