THE PREDICTION

World number 11 Hubert Hurkacz was exceptional in ousting in-form Jannik Sinner in straight sets on Thursday and reaching the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships without dropping a set. The 25-year-old claimed three titles last season at Delray Beach, Metz and Miami, the latter of which is his stand-out achievement as a first Masters title. Hurkacz beat Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals of the Miami Open on his way to the title, the second of their two meetings, and he also beat the Russian in three sets the year before at the Italian Open. World number seven Rublev had to come back from a set down to Mackenzie McDonald on Thursday a day after doing the same against Soonwoo Kwon and whilst he has every chance of winning here those results make backing Hurkacz to win at least a set seem the sensible move. Rublev is riding a seven-match winning streak but the man likeliest to come through here, based on performances this week, is the Pole.
