THE PREDICTION

19-year-old Holger Rune set a new career-high ATP world ranking of seventh this week after finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev at the Monte-Carlo Open on Sunday. The 19-year-old beat Daniil Medvedev, albeit on the Russian’s weakest surface, before a remarkable comeback over Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals on Saturday and that win looked to affect his ability to compete in the final. There is little doubt, though, that the Dane is a clear threat to any incoming clay tournament in this form and he claimed his maiden ATP title here in Munich a year ago to come in as the favourite this week. World number 112 Yannick Hanfmann is a solid clay-courter capable of providing the upset here, particularly as Rune comes off an emotional loss, and he came back from a set down to oust Thiago Monteiro on Monday for an excellent opener in Munich. The 31-year-old will play the underdog role well here as the home favourite and that makes backing Rune to win outright the very sensible call even though he should be coming through in straight sets.
