HOLGER RUNE VS GAEL MONFILS PREDICTION

Holger Rune has arguably had the hardest route to the round of 16 so far, but it is not getting any easier as the talented young Dane now faces Carlos Alcaraz’s victor Gael Monfils. Rune was drawn against Matteo Berrettini in the first round and he fought back from a set down to progress. Then he met in-form Portuguese star Nuno Borges and was pushed hard before winning 6-3 7-6. Now he faces Monfils who will be buzzing after pulling of a sensational comeback win.

Monfils was one set down overnight to Alcaraz and in the middle of a tiebreak with a slight advantage. He went on to win that and the broke Alcaraz early before going on to win the match. A stunning performance by the veteran Frenchman over a player 16 years his junior.

The pair have been drawn together before but Monfils had to withdraw from the match so they have never actually played. Monfils will be buzzing from that match but must now take stock and go again versus Rune.

The Dane will be well rested and ready for this. Monfils did well against Alcaraz but the Spaniard was unsettled with the pace of the court and Monfils just took advantage. Rune will be ready and should be able progress.
