GREGOIRE BARRERE VS ALEXANDER BUBLIK PREDICTION
World number 17 Alexander Bublik will be pleased to see the back of the clay swing after Roland-Garros, with three titles won on grass and hardcourts since this time last summer proof of his penchant for the faster surfaces. The 26-year-old has impressed in patches on his weakest surface but recent exits to Nuno Borges and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard on clay suggest he is there for the taking by someone more comfortable in these conditions.
Whilst world number 112 Gregoire Barrere would also prefer his tennis on a faster surface, the Frenchman will be fancying his chances at a big day here. The 30-year-old trails 2-3 in an oddly well-contested head-to-head record with Bublik and he won their first encounter in four sets at Wimbledon in 2019 to claim their only meeting at this level.
A knowledgeable partisan home support will be well aware of his chances at an upset here and Barrere brings momentum from a strong qualifying - as well as a point to prove after missing out on a wildcard. Bublik remains the favourite on form but take Barrere to earn at least a set and consider adding at least a tiebreak between two heavy hitters. This match looks a reasonable candidate for five sets.
