THE PREDICTION

World number six Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on number seven Alexander Zverev in a heavyweight clash that looks the key battle on Friday. With Maria Sakkari likeliest to take Greece up 1-0 in the opening match, 25-year-old Tsitsipas will be desperate to make amends for his defeat to Nicolas Jarry in Greece’s 1-2 defeat to Chile on Tuesday and sealing the quarter-final without playing the doubles would certainly do so. 26-year-old Zverev dropped sets in both of his wins so far at the United Cup, to Lorenzo Sonego and Adrian Mannarino, but he looks to be partnering well with Angelique Kerber in their doubles clashes to suggest Germany have the slight edge if they can force a decider.

Both players have laboured a little this week but they will surely improve in time for this clash, with Tsitsipas boasting a 9-4 lead in their head-to-head record after beating Zverev in straight sets at the Paris Masters in November. The Greek has won three of their last four encounters since the start of 2022 but if you had to pick the player in better recent form it would be Zverev, despite his defeat in Paris. Tsitsipas has won at least a set in each of their last six encounters, though, so take that option here in lieu of a tough result.

TIP: STEFANOS TSITSIPAS TO WIN A SET
