18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz dismissed fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut for just two conceded games on Monday as he continues his assault towards breaking the top 10. Alcaraz will set a new career-high of at least 18th no matter the outcome here as he takes a seven-match winning streak into the round if 16 at Indian Wells off the back of a first ATP 500 title at the Rio Open last month.

He avenged that defeat by beating the world number six on his way to the Rio Open title and conceding just two games to Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round here is scary form. Monfils has every chance after his heroics this season but the teenager’s trajectory is such that it may take his idol Rafael Nadal to halt him at Indian Wells. Take Alcaraz to win at least a set as the likelier winner here or take the risk with an outright pick for the future world number one.
